Character Sketches | 3.31.14

"Legend has it that if a warrior leaps through the void of the Guardian, he will become the new master of the Universe. In history, no one ever has."
Had to draw some character designs for a class and since it was late at night, some crazy happened. I actually think I'm beginning to improve. The character designs were supposed to push proportions and show some kind of use of pushed anatomy. My professor didn't have much to say to me ha. But yeah these were actually a ton of fun to draw. I drew everything from zombies, to cowboys, wastelanders, and even crazy multi-armed guardian beasts. Fun times.

Generic Ninja Baddie Sketch

I also drew guy tonight. I was trying to get a dynamic pose and I ended up drawing a random, generic baddie looking guy. Looks like one of the bad guys from Metal Gear Solid. I seriously messed up his hands, but I like the torso and some of the gun bits. Really still trying to loosen up and get more flow, rhythm and life into my drawings.

Face Practice Turns Into Sylvester Stallone

I decided to practice drawing faces so I just started sketching up a face. After I finished it I realized it almost looked like Sylvester Stallone. I drew Rocky on accident. I didn't even use any photo reference of the actor. My roommate guessed who it looked like on his first try.

Riot Police Sketch

Sketched up this riot police guy after watching the video for Noisia's "Tommy's Theme". Such a good song. I used a photo for reference. I think it turned out okay. There's so much to think about drawing, and at the same time, you're not supposed to think but just feel out the forces of the lines... I'm very confused about it, so I practice. I have a goal for April to fill up a sketchbook page everyday, so hopefully you'll be seeing more posts from my drawing side of art.

Zombie Sketch

Just a quick zombie I drew late at night. Was messing around with anatomy. I bent his arms way too much. Bendy bendy zombies. Still, didn't take me very long to get this, all from my head. Just need to keep sketching.

Gesture Drawings | Head & Neck Anatomy | 3.24.14

This week for Drawing in Motion class, we started learning about head and neck anatomy. So for the homework I tried drawing some faces fairly quickly. Gotta say, I drew some ugly stuff this week. I like the first face actually, it seems to be the most solidly constructed. The last three faces I spent only one minute on, so they aren't as fleshed out, but I was trying to get most of the anatomy/shapes down. In some ways those drawings are better than the ones I spent more time on. You'll be seeing more face and character studies soon. Practice, practice. Practice!

Stumped | Shot002 Test Render!

This is mad exciting! After all those uploads of bare bones animation files without any rendering, I finally ran a render through the pipeline. It's so amazing to see how things can actually look after you render all the gray and lame geometry with shaders and lighting and such. Seeing this has really made me excited to keep doing hard work. Can't wait to see this finished. Much excite!

Stumped | Roth Shader Progress

Here is some progress on Roth's VRay shaders. I had a lot of help from my professor in class today and he showed me how to build a more complex way to create a better fabric shader. He also helped me with some of the fur problems I had been having on the greaves, and I built the leather materials used on the belt and greaves by myself. Crazy to see that basic geometry transformed into something much more detailed at render time. The possibilities of CG blow my mind.

Gesture Drawings | Torso/Foot Anatomy | 3.17.14

Here are two of the best gestures I did of back anatomy (male) this week.
These are three of the best chest and torso anatomy gestures I liked.
Can't really say I enjoy drawing feet but these were a couple of the best drawings.

Since the mid-semester break, my Drawing In Motion class has been covering specific areas of anatomy on the body. We are learning how to detail those areas out and learn the muscle groups that lay underneath the skin, which should help influence how we perceive weight and flow on the human figure. All of these drawings were done in roughly a minute.

Soldier Sketch

I drew this soldier based off a photo from Vietnam and shortly thereafter watched The Green Berets. Anyways I was practicing face and hands and translating a photo into a style. So yeah, this happened.

Weekend Sketches | 3.16.14

I drew all this stuff without reference, really, not really proud of it but I did draw it, so here it is. My sketchbook needs...more.
