Motion Design | Engage

Here's my first attempt at syncing some motion design to a song! I used Machine Gun (Noisia) - Amon Tobin Remix which is a pretty dirty dubstepy song, and then I built some fake 3D robots in After effects in 2D. This was a huge learning experience for me..I had high ambitions for this project but they fell a little short, simply 'cause I spent so much time figuring out how to make the robots then I didn't have as much time for the actual animation bits. But there's a couple moments I do like, and that I did accomplish a piece of my original idea. I want to revisit this and make it longer and even more intense!

After Effects | Parallax Demo

For this assignment, we had to take a photograph of some kind and create a sort of parallax effect with it. I really like steampunk, and I happened across this awesome painting of a airship battle. The painting has a very clear and strong foreground, middleground, and background, so I decided to go for it. The masking took me forever, because I had to paint out all the little details of the airships. But after that was done, the actual movement in After Effects was fairly straight forward. I'm actually pretty happy with out it turned out! Looks sort of like an animated story animatic or graphic novel.

After Effects | Simple Elements Rocket Launch

This was my second After Effects project. Our goal was to use simple shapes to create a scene that embodied some sort of emotion. I decided to try and do something that was awe inspiring or powerful or something like that, so I decided to do a NASA rocket launch. Saturn rockets were one of the most powerful machines man has ever created, and watching the live footage reference was really something. Of course, my little pixelated rocket ship doesn't quite do those launches justice. But I did work to put a lot of detail into the lighting and such, like the lighting on the tower as the rocket launches..thought it was a cool touch. Fun project, I kinda wanna do more with it.

Sol | Canyon Concept Sketch

Here's a rough and quick sketch I did of a new level layout for our game, Sol. It's a canyon gorge filled with the floating rocks, almost like an asteroid belt in space. I like this design because it gives the player a clear goal in the distance, the superconduit, and naturally encloses the player inside the playable gamespace. I'll keep working on concepts.
