Fuzzy Dice | Messing with Vray Fur

Messing with V-Ray fur, trying to create a fuzzy feeling for this die. Kinda there, kinda not. More tweaks needed!

Mekanica | Progress Reel

Here's a short progress reel on the work I've been doing for Mekanica so far. You can see how far I've come from the previous post. A lot of work on different areas, such as lighting, modeling, texturing, fx, etc. All done in Unreal Engine 4. I think I'm probably about half way through everything I want to accomplish, but I figured I'd post my progress from storyboard animatic to my current progress. Enjoy!

Mekanica Teaser WIP

Here's a short teaser trailer I cut together for Mekanica, created from short clips of in-game scenes. Still pretty rough around the edges, but something is finally forming! Looking to improve this drastically over the coming weeks.

Final Student Environment Artist & Game Design Reel

Well here it is. After months of work and two semesters, here is my final senior reel. I'm sure things will be updated and change as I continue work through the summer, but I wanted to take a moment and post where I am currently at in my creative process. And this is it! I've decided to focus on environmental art and game design, and thus have a reel for both of those specialties. So sit back, relax, and enjoy a bunch of robots and farms.

Mekanica | Medbay WIP

Working on a model for my game project, Mekanica. It's a lifesupport machine used to keep wounded soldiers alive near the front lives. Still a work-in-progress, need to add a few more details, but it's almost there. Just posting this as a bit of a milestone I suppose. Gotta keep pushing.

Breakdown Reel | Halcyon Floppy Disk Ad

The sky before color correction.

Whole 'lotta gradients, whole 'lotta glow. That's how this project came together. I made this breakdown reel of the Halcyon Floppy Disk motion design project I created to show the process I went through to arrive the final product. It was pretty refreshing to be able to show how I did what I did all the little steps that got me there. I hope you can learn something from this video, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment! It was super fun making the project as well as the breakdown reel! I might try to make more of this sort of process-revealing stuff in the future. :)

Motion Design | Halcyon Corp. Laser Disk Ad

Save your data. Save the future. 320kbs. The future is here in high capacity storage formats! I love the 80's, including the colors, fonts, technology, music, everything. I tried to fuse as much 80s goodness as I could into this 10 second project I created for my motion design class. We had to create a short product advertisement in After Effects and I opted to kick it oldschool retro. The final video took me about 15 hours to create and I ran into some interesting challenges along the way. I fuzed several different elements of After Effects together, including Trapcode Mir, Particular, Element3d, and a host of the default effects to arrive at the final look. Lots and lots of layers, but nothing says 80's like glowing grids, powerwave music, and neon colors.

The Journey | Waystation Concept Sketch

Colossal robots of a previous Age have become defunct. Now, in the desert, Waystations have popped up, drawing power from the robots and using scrap and salvage to trade with and supply travelers. Nobody has proper tools to dismantle the extremely durable robots, so salvaging is a tough prospect. Still, at the right time of day, the industrial frame creates plenty of much needed shade from the sweltering sun.

This concept started out as a thumbnail sketch in my class notes lined notebook. I took that thumbnail and refined that sketch into a quick painting. Not extremely detailed but enough to get the major points across. I'm still deciding if I want to render this in V-Ray or Unreal Engine 4, both have their pros and cons. In any case, time to get modeling!

Mekanica | Title Screen

Played around with some of the render setting in post processing in Unreal Engine 4. Didn't touch this in Photoshop except for adding the text, all colors right out of UE4. I was just messing with a new corn asset I made and trying to make a possible title screen for our game project, Mekanica. Think it looks pretty cool! This is encouraging me to continue the grind and keep plugging away at the environment.

Demoreel | Environment Artist

This is the demoreel I'll be presenting for summer internships. Some of it is recycle work from my previous reel, but I also have quite a bit new stuff as well! Most of it is from my current game project, Mekanica. I'll be excited to show off the entire environment I'm doing in Unreal Engine 4 soon, but for now I only have the assets to show off. Enjoy the reel! Let me know what you like/dislike or what works and what doesn't! Thanks for checking it out! Can't wait to add more awesome to it!

Motion Design | GamerDB Opening Theme

Here's a short broadcasting style introduction theme I made in After Effects using the Element3D plugin. I modeled the arcade machine in Maya, then textured it in Photoshop, finally using Element to render it out in After Effects. Setting up the screens was a bit of a chore and took some trial and error to get the proportions correct, but I have to say, seeing all those games in an arcade format is pretty cool! Only thing missing is sound, which I'll add sooner or later.

Arcade Machine | WIP Render

Just an arcade machine I've been working on the past couple of weeks. First I modeled it, but now I've been texturing it. Texturing process is a bit slow, but I'm getting into the nitty gritty details, like wear and tear. It's really fun. Like how it's turning out so far!

Mekanica | Airship

Here's a very fast render/cheap clouds that I used to put this airship model into context. It's a really fast game model I made for Mekanica. I would love to go in and get really detailed with it, but it's far away in the background and it'll serve it's purpose just fine for that.

Mekanica | Diorama Turntable

My month of January progress for a game environment in my Mekanica project. I worked on modeling powerlines, a gas/diesel pump, and a diesel tank. I decided to just put them all on a little turntable diorama and make a little scene to show off the models instead of showing them individually. Trying to create a vintage 1920's dieselpunk feel. So far I think it's going okay, just need to make sure everything stays stylistically similar. Excited to use these assets in Unreal and make my level feel alive!
